HP garners 14.5% of the Indian PC market

Hewlett-Packard (HP) leads the overall PC market sales in India, with 14.5 percent market share at 1,15,911 units of
desktops (including branded workstations) and notebooks shipped. According to IDC's 2Q 2004 results, HP
has reinforced its No.1 selling position in the overall desktop market, with a 13.3 percent market share (101,059 units shipped) and an 18
percent share in value terms during the second calendar quarter of 2004.

In the commercial desktop space, HP had a market share of 14.1 percent (70,213 units shipped) and a 19.5 percent share in
value terms. In the consumer desktop segment, HP posted a share of 12 percent (30,846 units
shipped) and a 14.3 percent share in value terms. 

HP also leads the growing notebook market, with an overall market share of 34.4 percent with 14,852 total units shipped,
and likewise a value share of 34.4 percent during the 2Q 2004 period. In the branded workstation market in
India, HP again  led the pack with a 44.6 percent unit market share in 2Q 2004, a 20.5 percentage point lead over its nearest competitor. HP shipped
2,225 units of branded workstations in 2Q 2004 with 46.9 percent revenue share.

According to IDC, India is one of the largest growing notebook markets in the Asia/Pacific excluding Japan Region, with the
2Q 2003 to 2Q 2004 periods showing a compounded annual growth rate of 24.0 percent. This growth is
being fuelled by higher IT spends in corporate, education and SMB segments in India.
