HP launches new range of business desktops

HP India has launched a new range of desktop PCs targeted at business customers. The models in this range are HP Compaq
D220, D330 and D530. With this launch, HP wants to effectively address the low-end segment, where
currently it doesn't enjoy a very great marketshare.

The HP Compaq D220 series has a price-tag starting from Rs 36,000 (exclusive of taxes) for a P4 1.8 GHz machine. The
two models in D330 series are priced at Rs 50,000 and Rs 55,000, while two models in D530 series are priced at Rs
61,000 and Rs 67,000. While D220 comes with a one-year comprehensive warranty, D330 and D530 is offered with a three-year comprehensive warranty.

However, what is interesting to note is that that HP has launched these desktops with Linux also as on option for OS apart from Windows XP. Company officials point out that by offering Linux OS on these machines they have been able to make the desktops more affordable.

Commenting on the need to have these desktops, Ravi Swaminathan, VP, PSG, HP India, says, "What customers are looking for in a business
environment is increased productivity, protection of their assets, as well as competitive
advantage. That's why we are launching these products to address those needs of customers." HP India according to analysts, enjoys #2 spot in the PC
business in the country with a 7.6% marketshare. "With our enhanced product
line, we intend to the no 1 player in the commercial PC business here," adds
Ravi.

HP is projecting these new offerings as "tomorrow's technology today". "Our new business desktops will help customers
protect their valuable data with enhanced security features and services. We are bringing to customers
tomorrow's leading-edge technology to meet their business requirements today," remarks Joergen Jakobsen, VP and GM, Business PC
Division, PSG, HP APac.
