IBM has achieved the numero uno position in the overall server market in
India for 2004, as per IDC's Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker,
Q4 2004. IBM's overall server revenues grew 16% in 2004 compared to 2003. This
enabled it to take the market leadership position with 30.5% revenue share.
IBM continued to lead the x86 server market with 35.7% revenue share in 2004
compared to 2003. In the Linux server market, IBM was the leader with a
10.8-point lead over its nearest competitor in 2004. In the x86 Blade server
market, IBM garnered 79.1% revenue share.

"IBM's ability to sustain its leadership position can be attributed
largely to its strong focus on volume server market and key competitive winbacks,"
said IDC (India) Computing Products and Channels Research Head, Aman Muglani. He
added that pioneering efforts in leading technologies like blades and dedicated
marketing focus on the SMB segments have definitely contributed to the annual
revenue growth.
IBM India Systems and Technology Group VP, Alok Ohrie said, "We intend
to further consolidate our marketshare this year and extend our business focus
to offer solutions for the government and telecom segments." In the non-x86
Unix server market, IBM advanced to second spot with 30.3% revenue market share
in Q4 2004, with a 6.4-point lead over its nearest competitor.
