Intel Introduces Core Ultra Processors Designed for AI PCs

Intel has introduced the latest mobile processor in its lineup – the Intel Core Ultra. This processor brings on-device generative AI capabilities and marks Intel's debut in the consumer segment with a dedicated neural processing unit. Leading OEMs such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, Google Chromebook, HP, Lenovo, LG, Microsoft Surface, MSI, and Samsung will feature over 230 "world's first AI PCs" powered by the Intel Core Ultra.

“The launch of Intel Core Ultra represents the unmatched scale and speed at which Intel is enabling AI on the PC. By 2028, AI PCs will comprise 80% of the PC market. With our vast ecosystem of hardware and software partners, Intel is best positioned to deliver this next generation of computing,” said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Intel Executive Vice President and General Manager of Client Computing Group

The Intel Core Ultra stands as the inaugural processor crafted on the Intel 4 process technology, signifying the most significant architectural transformation undertaken by the company in four decades. Leveraging Foveros 3D advanced packaging technology, this innovation allows cutting-edge intellectual properties (IPs) to align with leading-edge processes, thereby optimizing overall performance and capability. Introducing the Performance-core (P-core) architecture results in an enhanced instructions-per-cycle (IPC) rate. The inclusion of efficient cores (E-cores) and low-power efficient cores (LP E-cores) not only ensures scalability but also delivers a remarkable up to 11% boost in multi-threaded performance compared to competitors. This translates into a pioneering CPU computing experience tailored for ultrathin PCs.

The Intel Core Ultra introduces an integrated Intel Arc GPU3, boasting up to eight Xe-cores, AI-driven Xe Super Sampling (XeSS), DX12 Ultimate support, and a remarkable doubling of graphics performance compared to its predecessor. This advanced GPU incorporates cutting-edge features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing, mesh shading, AV1 encode and decode, along with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 20G support. This comprehensive graphics package ensures a powerful and immersive experience, setting a new standard for modern graphics capabilities in the Intel Core Ultra processor.

Intel's latest Neural Processing Unit (NPU), known as Intel AI Boost, is specifically designed to efficiently manage extended AI workloads at low power consumption. This specialized unit seamlessly complements AI processing on both the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), resulting in a remarkable 2.5 times improvement in power efficiency compared to the previous generation.

The new processor family also offers:

It features a maximum of 16 cores (comprising six P-cores, eight E-cores, and two LP E-cores), along with 22 threads, and incorporates the next-generation Intel Thread Director for optimized workload scheduling.
