Close on the heels of the AMD's announcement of
microprocessor price cuts of almost 46 percent, Intel has announced its plans to
slash prices of CPUs by up to 40 percent. R K Amar Babu, GM, Channels, South
Asia, confirmed the price cuts and said, "The price slash is a part of our
planned roadmap for this quarter as well as our worldwide marketing
initiative."
Commenting on Intel's channel initiatives, Amar Babu said,
"Promotional programs and schemes for channels will remain unaffected. We
would be shortly rolling out channel programs for P4, which would include
training campaigns, retail and distribution schemes, etc."

These initiatives are being seen as company's aggressive
strategy to push up its processor sales. Several channel partners see this as a
very enterprising move, but complain that shortage of supplies could go against
Intel. "Though the reduced prices would help us generate inquiries, we are
not able to address them due to shortage of supplies. The fresh stock is
expected to reach us only by mid-February," says Sunil, Branch Manager,
Redington.
