Intel’s 14th-generation Meteor Lake processors are said to bring the much-wanted upgrades over the 13th-generation. Intel is said to be leveraging AI with the upcoming processors to improve power management on these processors. The report mentions that the new Meteor Lake processors can use AI to manage power and switch between the active and low power modes based on usage.
Intel is calling this “Intel Energy Efficiency Architecture” which is expected to arrive with future processors including the 14th-generation.
“We care very much about responsiveness when we interact with the computer. We want immediate action, and we don’t want to wait too long,” said Efraim Rotem from Intel's Design Engineering Group.
To enhance performance, Intel has implemented a technology known as Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS). This approach can be conceptualized as a form of processor intelligence, where the processor dynamically manages its performance based on the current task at hand.
To illustrate, when a demanding task is actively running, the CPU ramps up its clock speed to operate at a higher frequency, delivering improved processing power for the task's requirements. However, it's crucial to note that once the task is completed, the CPU intelligently transitions into a lower power state to conserve battery life. This seamless adjustment in performance levels ensures optimal efficiency and power usage.
Furthermore, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into upcoming processors will significantly augment their intelligence. These advanced processors will possess the capability to discern and comprehend users' usage patterns and associated algorithms. By doing so, they can intelligently optimize their performance and resource allocation, tailoring their operation to match the specific needs and preferences of individual users. This level of adaptability promises to deliver a more user-centric and efficient computing experience, ultimately enhancing the overall performance and functionality of these processors.
As per the report, using AI will also make the professors more responsive by up to 35%.
