Challenges & opportunities for cloud services industry in India

Rajgopal - Cloud started as a single company innovation by Amazon and over the years as the market expanded, more players emerged. There are at least 8 large global players and several hundred small ones serving enterprises globally. The global players have built proprietary platforms and API to keep enterprises committed for the long term. The clouds have traditionally been great for building and scaling new applications rapidly but do not necessarily provide the best value economics. By making the cloud more predictable in performance and more affordable, it will foster the small & medium enterprises adopt digital technologies and transform their business, globally.

Rajgopal - Everything as a service is getting to be a part of cloud and the scope is ever evolving. Cloud market is growing both horizontally, adding new services and vertically, more customer adoptions. India cloud market is about Rs. 20,000 crores and is expected to triple in size over next 5 years.

How secure is Cloud technology? How is the security landscape evolving for Cloud and Datacentre in India?

Rajgopal - Cloud is more secure than average enterprise IT infrastructure. Each of the services go through constant updates and checks for vulnerabilities. The scale of cloud infrastructure makes it economical to build and maintain security infrastructure and talent. The issues that crop are related to code & data deployed by customers without adequate security mechanisms. This can be solved by assisting customers to understand, adopt and monitor their security posture.

What is being done to integrate the cloud service providers in this venture?

Rajgopal - India is a very large country and the digital infrastructure cannot be limited to 2-3 cities. The combination of dense compute infrastructure at core & edge will cover India with a digital fog with opensource technologies thus making cloud all pervasive and within reach of all.
