New Update

HP has introduced Itanium 2-based servers, which reportedly deliver up to 50% faster applications over the previous performance rates. These systems are backed by over 700 applications from independent software vendors in commercial and technical areas.

The HP Integrity servers are multi-OS-compatible, which means users can run Windows, HP-UX, Linux and, in the future, Open VMS. The HP designed ZXL and SX1000 chipsets utilize the power of Itanium 2 processors by lowering memory latencies and increasing memory and I/O subsystem scalability. Because the Itanium ecosystem is at the beginning of its life cycle, customers can expect performance increases gradually.

HP plans to introduce midrange Integrity systems with up to 16 processors and an Itanium 2-based non-stop offering in 2004.

The advantage of this new venture is that customers can buy HP integrity servers and re-deploy different OS as and when required.

Complimenting the new Integrity servers is a broad portfolio of HP StorageWorks systems disk-arrays, tapes and SAN. The target areas for the integrated servers are banking and financial companies, government sector, telecom, manufacturing and other SMB segments.

HP claims to provide a low TCO to firms deploying their Itanium server models owing to faster processing techniques.

HP also announced plans to upgrade the ProLiant DL560, DL580, ML570, DL740 and DL760 servers and ProLiant BL40p blade server with the latest Xeon processor MP at speeds up to 2.8 GHZ.
