Jalan Infotech relaunches Leo

Kolkata : Kolkata-based Jalan Infotech is all set to launch its own brand
named Leo in East. The first range of products to be released under the Leo
brand is the UPS. "Leo is a brand that was registered by Jalan Infotech
three years ago. We had a plan to launch our own PC range under this name,"
informed Jalan. "However I felt it was not the right time to launch a local
PC brand, so I decided to wait for the right moment. That's why we remained
silent," explained Jalan.

Given the recent upsurge in the power space in the East, Jalan believes that
the market for UPS very lucrative. "In Eastern India, the power is very
unstable which is why the demand for UPS is very high. We estimated it to be a
very good market to launch our own brand and hence went ahead with the
plan," he said. According to Jalan, UPS are bottomline products, which will
help the company to earn handsome margin as well as offer the same to its
channel partners. "Our channel has been our biggest strength and since Leo
is our own brand we would like to give as much support and benefits as is
possible to them," he added.

To start with, Leo will launch one model of UPS-625VA, followed by 1KVA. The
UPS come with a two-year replacement warranty and one-year warranty on the
batteries. The initial sales target Jalan is looking for is 1,000 units per
month and by the end of this fiscal the company is looking forward to selling at
least 4,000 units per month. "We have a set channel to promote our products
and we will be marketing the UPS very aggressively," said Jalan. The
products are likely to hit the market by December-end.

Interestingly, Jalan is sourcing the product material from India instead of
like China or Taiwan. "I prefer to have a product that is produced in our
own country rather than getting it from outside," said Jalan. "Also,
given the Indian power condition, the UPS have to be manufactured to be
effective and provide maximum user benefits," reasoned Jalan. Apart from
UPS, Jalan also has plans to launch other products like cabinets, speakers in
the forthcoming days.
