Kolkata-based Jalan Infotech announced plans to foray into the South Indian
market. Speaking about the move, Arun Kumar Jalan, Director, Jalan Infotech
said, "The southern market has much promise. We are planning to start our
operations there and gradually expand our business across South India. I feel
South is the right market to explore,"
The company will open a branch in Hyderabad by December 2007, followed by two
more branches in Chennai and Bangalore by March next year. "With branches
in these three locations we will be able to control the entire southern market
and hence increase our business," he said.
Simultaneously, Jalan is also planning to open one more branch in Raipur by
December. "Chhattisgarh is another market which has tremendous potential
and is growing fast. Therefore, we intend to enter the market and generate good
business there," informed Jalan.
The company had opened a branch in Mumbai last year, although it never
increased its business focus in the region. "West is already very
overcrowded and at present we are not interested in increasing our focus
there," said Jalan.
On the distribution front, the company clocked a total business of around Rs
90 crore from Lenovo. The achievement helped them bag the best distributor award
from India at the Lenovo APAC meet held in Beijing. "Our focused efforts
towards Lenovo helped us reap results. We have received tremendous support from
Lenovo, which further helped us to achieve the feat," informed Jalan.
Meanwhile, Jalan has also tied-up with HCL as a distributor for West Bengal
and Orissa. "HCL is focused on their range of Laptops and I feel it's a
win-win situation for us since we can route the products through their channel
network. We might at a later stage also enter other states along with HCL,"
he said. The company is also looking forward to including new products to its
portfolio. Presently it is focused on distribution of laptops and desktop
ranges. "We are planning to add more products to our basket. We have tied
up with Finolex to distribute their range of networking cables and networking
passive components for Kolkata. This is a bottomline business for us. Similarly,
we may include a variety of products," he concluded.
