After a somewhat sluggish growth for the last two years, Kolkata-based
Jupiter International bounced back with an explosive growth this fiscal
From an unimpressive growth of only three percent last year, Jupiter
International is back with a bang this year. With a highly conspicuous growth
rate of 138 percent and a turnover of Rs 240 crore for the current fiscal as
compared to its previous year's collection of Rs 101 crore, the company has
once again secured its position as a leader in the business.
Jupiter last year rose to newer heights with the set-up of a CDR
manufacturing unit in Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with Singulus
Technologies Ag, Germany. With this latest venture, the company edged itself out
to provide the highest quality optical media products to the Indian market,
which is otherwise, being fed by low-end imports from China in a significant
way.

The CDRs produced at the plant in Baddi are being marketed in India under the
brand name Frontech and Frontech Plus for the premium end. The equipment and
technology supplied by Singulus has enabled the company to produce CDRs of
international standards at Indian prices.
Apart from this the company achieved another landmark as it was made the
exclusive distributor by Samsung to market its entire range of Pleomax series of
optical media and IT peripherals products. This particular venture has
nonetheless helped Jupiter to increase its volume business. The launch of the
Frontech Plus range of IT peripherals for the high-end segment also helped the
company to augment its sales.
With strength of over 1,500 partners spread across the country Jupiter now
plans to extend its operations to capture overseas markets soon. The company at
the same time plans to expand its distribution network with the opening of new
branches. Last year too it had opened several branches in places like Pune,
Lucknow, Meerut, etc.
Jupiter also wishes to increase its market share in the consumer electronics
segment which the company entered a couple of years back with products like, VCD,
DVD players and other home entertainment devices. Realizing the importance and
the growing prospects of the upcountry market Jupiter is keen to focus more in
that sector to generate more market share for itself apart from its plan to
introduce more varied range of products, including LCD monitors and networking
devices in the next fiscal.
