"Currently, notebooks contribute just 2% of the PC business in the country. Since LG already has a huge notebook business internationally, it would want to replicate a similar success in country and help notebook share increase to at least 10%," says Ajay Surjan, Product Head-PC, LG Electronics India.

Globally, the company sells co-branded notebooks with IBM in South Korea and is an original equipment manufacturer for many other leading notebook vendors.

According to Ajay, the company would be launching a complete range of notebooks and its price-points will be targeted at users in mid and premium segments. "We are carrying out some market exercises and based on this we would be able to formulate our final strategy," adds he. With a manufacturing facility in place at Noida and the company investing heavily towards manufacturing in Gujarat, these notebooks might well get assembled in the country itself.

LG also informed about getting aggressive to push its MyPc. "We have launched a new model of MyPc at the PC Expo, which is very competitively priced at Rs 32,000. Such price-points coupled with LG's strong service backbone and brand image will offer tough fight to other higher-priced MNC brands," says Ajay. However, he adds that its been a very short time to really gauge the success of MyPc in the market.
