Lindows.com Inc launched the Lindows.com Business-Station, a powerful, low-maintenance computer. It is designed for work terminals, public-access kiosks, in-store information hubs or any number of functions businesses may need to enable web-based communications with customers, employees or back-end systems. These PCs start at $169.
BusinessStation combines benefits of the successful Webstation (www.lindows.com/webstation) design with a network-based management tool, which enables customization from 1 to 5,000 machines from any web browser. Using an on-line form, any computer maintainer can configure Webstations to launch a specific Java program, flash presentation, navigate to any corporate intranet or other HTML-based location upon start-up. Clusters of similar purpose machines can be assigned to a group allowing a simple on-line selection to control a large network of machines.
BusinessStation services are available for $10 per-year, per Webstation with volume discounts starting at 500 units. For under $200 anyone can purchase a Webstation and use the BusinessStation feature to create a machine tailored for Internet activity.
The CD-based design of the Webstation needs very little maintenance and ensures a virus-free machine, without the need for additional software or expense.
Says Michael Roberston, CEO, Lindows.com. “With BusinessStation any corporation, school or government can now deploy machines tailored to their particular Internet task without a big technology budget or complex training or setup.”
