One of the items on Navneet Sehgal, Lucknow’s District Magistrate’s (DM),
agenda is introducing e-governance and making Lucknow emerge as a model of what
a modern and ‘Smart’ city should be.
He has instructed officials to identify at least half-a-dozen spots in the
city for setting up of cyber cafes or IT kiosks to give shape to the project. He
said that the move was part of an effort to provide people with a facility
wherein they would no longer need to stand in a long queue or go running to a
department to deposit their electricity, water or house tax bill.
"These IT kiosks or cyber cafes would be linked to these public utility
departments through a network of computers and would be centrally located,"
informs Navneet and adds that this would be a first step towards achieving the
‘Smart’ city status for the state capital.
Recently, a team of officials including Minister of State, Sheema Rizvi, had
visited Hyderabad to see for themselves how the IT-savvy Chandra Babu Naidu,
Andhra Chief Minister has transformed his state’s capital into a cyber city.
Navneet, who was also part of the delegation, was transferred soon after his
return.
Companies like Tata Consultancy Services and Iris Software have already made
presentations on how the Hyderabad model can be implemented in the state
capital.
