Maxtor to open Indian office

Maxtor International will soon set up an Indian liaison office in Mumbai.

Yogesh Kamath, who will be Country Manager, will manage the business operations

in India, while Conrad Serrao is the National Sales Manager. The company has

been present in APac for the past 18 years and has been selling in India for the

past three years. However it was fulfilling the country's need through its

office in Singapore.

"Our business in India has been growing steadily and we felt that the

business justified the opening of our own office in the country," said

Simon Lee, Director, Marketing and Distribution Sales, APac, Maxtor

International. Simon hopes that with the new office and dedicated personnel for

the country, Maxtor will have a level playing with its competitors.

In a bid to be more aggressive, Maxtor had recently increased its warranty

support from three to five years. "We realized that customers in India play

a huge onus on the time frame for warranty support and therefore increased it,

to boost their confidence in our brand," added Simon.

APac and Japan contribute 30% to Maxtor's global revenues. After tapping

the enterprise and corporate segments, the company is now focusing on the SOHO

market in these regions with its One Touch shared storage products. It is

actively working with systems integrators for this range.

The One Touch solution has automatic network configuration, and Maxtor's

exclusive Drag and Sort technology that helps users organize their data on the

network. Once the setup is complete, each networked PC user automatically

receives a desktop icon with access to a shared public folder as well as their

own set of personal private network folders. It comes in a 200GB or 300GB

storage capacity, and includes two USB ports to connect and share two USB

printers or two additional external storage drives, or one of each.
