Maxtor which has entered the SCSI drive market in India in July, has decided
to boost its sales with the help of a sales promotion. The company will award
the top three resellers who have sold the maximum number of SCSI drives in the
JAS quarter at a channel meet in the first week of October.

However the company is not revealing the prizes it will offer to winners to
ensure that partners are not tempted to discount prices in the process. Says
Yogesh Kamat, Sales Manager, Maxtor International Sarl-Singapore Branch,
"We have noticed that partners often discount the product depending on the
price of the gift they are likely to win. This will give rise to under-cutting
in the market, which we want to avoid at all costs."

Currently the SCSI market is dominated by Seagate with almost 70 percent
marketshare, followed by IBM at 30 percent.

Maxtor hopes that by the end of next year it will be able to garner 13
percent marketshare for its brand. "We have already managed to get good
mindshare among SI customers. We expect our sales to increase by 100 percent
with this promotion."
