MicroWorld Technologies Inc, a solutions provider for IT content, security and communications, has cautioned computer users of yet another virus attack called 'Lovesan virus' (alias Blaster). This new worm-virus is spreading through global networks.

Lovesan exploits a bug in the Windows OS, in a service called as distributed component object module and remote procedure call. Microsoft had released a patch to plug this loophole. The virus apparently is targeted at Microsoft, having the following text embedded inside it: "I just want to say LOVE YOU SAN!! Billy Gates why do you make this possible? Stop making money and fix your software!!"

If a PC does not have the Microsoft patch, Lovesan automatically "transports" itself to the machine from another infected PC. It then tries to copy itself to other machines on the network, using the same technique. This transportation method is called "Buffer Overrun Request". So, unlike other viruses, in case of Lovesan, there's no e-mail attachment or web surfing involved.

If a user is connected to the Internet, and in the scanning range of the virus, his PC will get infected. Once this happens, the virus disallows the user to connect to the website windowsupdate.com, which has the patch to stop this infection.
