With the objective of addressing the growing need for qualified help-desk
professionals, Microsoft launched a new certification titled Microsoft
Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST). The MCDST will provide the
core knowledge required to troubleshoot and support users of the Microsoft
Windows XP operating system as well as applications such as Microsoft Office
and Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The MCDST credential is aimed at the desktop support professionals,
help-desk technicians, customer-support representatives, PC support
specialists and technical-support specialists. As an entry-level
certification, it provides a way for industry newcomers to gain the
essential knowledge and recognition required to obtain a frontline job. It
also provides an efficient way for IT and HR managers to bring the
competency of help-desk staff on a Microsoft Windows desktop environment to
a consistent level across the board in an enterprise.
"Designed specifically for the frontline help-desk professionals, the MCDST
certification will contribute significantly in delivering the necessary
skills and expertise required for building lasting customer relationships,"
says Punit Vanvaria, Manager - Business Development, Microsoft Corporation
India.
"Also with the current increase in outsourcing jobs in the country, this
certification will serve as a quality benchmark for companies that are
recruiting in this space, to ensure excellent desktop support to their user
communities," he adds.
The MCDST is an entry-level credential demonstrating that an individual has
gained the core knowledge necessary to troubleshoot hardware or software
operations and application problems for end users on the desktop or
client-side based on the Microsoft Windows XP desktop operating system.
