Punit Vanvaria, Manager-Business Development, Microsoft Corporation India elaborates about the certification roll-out, "Ensuring security of critical data and information is the priority for the connected enterprise today. This translates into an upsurge in demand for specialized network professionals who possess the necessary knowledge and skills to build and maintain a secure computing environment within an enterprise. Our new certifications will ensure the creation of a ready resource pool of system engineers and administrators who will be specialists on the subject of security."

The new certifications are specific to both Windows 2000 and the Windows Server 2003 platform. To earn one of the new security certifications, candidates will be required to pass core exams for the MCSA or MCSE credential, and then pass a number of security specialization exams to demonstrate their ability in key areas such as security foundations, security implementation, and security design.

One of these specialization options is the CompTIA Security+ credential, which is an industry-recognized standard for foundation-level security practitioners.
