Prices of monitors have dipped as much as 20 percent, while prices of hard
disk drives, CPUs, and CD-RWs have come down by a range of three to 10 percent
in the month of June. The price fluctuations are linked to drop in international
prices and technology obsolescence.
Resellers call it a regular drop caused by the popularity of newer models.
This has resulted in an overall price drop of assembled PCs with lower
configurations.
Prices of 20GB and 40GB HDDs from Seagate and Samsung closed at Rs 500 to Rs
750 lower in June. CPU prices, especially Pentium 4-1.7 GHz model, saw a drop of
three to four percent.
Some monitor vendors including Samtel, Samsung, LG and Microtek lowered their
prices for 14-inch and 15-inch models by around seven to 20 percent. The price
cut was done to push 17-inch monitors as entry-level models.
CD-writer market also saw a price cut of around 10 percent in 20x and 24x
models, because of the popularity of 32x CD-writer as an entry-level model.
In sound cards, Creative lowered its price for some of its most popular
models, including Vibra and SB-Live. The Vibra model is now priced at Rs 925, down from Rs 1,025 in first week of June.
