NIIT has received the mandate for providing computer and computer-aided
education in 900 state government schools in Maharashtra and Bihar.
As per two back-to-back orders bagged by its School Learning Solutions
Business, NIIT will train nearly 1.3 million students in 500 state government
schools in Maharashtra, and 6,00,000 children in 400 schools in Bihar, in the
next five years.
The addition of 900 schools has further strengthened NIIT's leadership in the
School Learning Solutions space. The new program uniquely positions NIIT to
become the only training company in India to offer comprehensive ICT education
in over 6,000 schools, reaching nearly 3.4 million children in 11 states.
Sharing details of the new programs, L Balasubramanian, President-School
Learning Solutions, NIIT said, “We are honored to partner with the Governments
of Maharashtra and Bihar in their initiative to promote computer education in
schools.”
NIIT is working closely with Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation
(BSEDC), and Director of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary)-Government
of Maharashtra to implement computer education in the schools.
“NIIT programs will open new vistas of learning and provide a level playing
field to school students in rural areas to bring them at par with their
counterparts in the metros,” added Balasubramanian.
NIIT's learning solutions for schools includes setting up of computer
hardware, software, connected accessories for computer system, and highly
trained instructors, for classes eight to 12 in specified secondary and higher
secondary government schools on turnkey-basis model for a period of five years,
in the two states.
NIIT's computer assisted learning model will provide a network of 10
computers and one server in each school, backed by a UPS and generator to enable
continuous power back-up, thus bringing a large number of students from remote
corners of the states, into the IT fold.
