Graduate in BE Electronics and Communication, Satish Choudhary started his career with a US Multinational firm named Multitech as the sales engineer if the Eastern region. And today, he owns a company, Techniche Consulting Services, in Kolkata, that is a complete solution provider catering to communication , networking, data-center, wireless, VOIP, access security, surveillance, IP bandwidth, linux installations, consultancy in call centers and BPO setup.
How the journey began:
Choudhary decided to be an entrepreneur at a young age, during his job. And his work, interestingly, helped him to achieve what he wanted. "After about one year of job, I resigned from Multitech. Entrepreneurship bug had bitten me and I started my own business of Communication products. My job gave ample opportunities to give demo to various companies trying to set up a Data Communication Network to transfer their Information over Telephone Lines. It helped me to get close to a number of Senior IT Professionals who not only provided lot of Business opportunities but also guided me personally," shares Choudhary.
Initial challenges
Venturing into the business was not easy for Choudhary too. Finance and his non-business background were the main hurdles he faced in his initial days. He says, "Life wasn't easy starting a new business with no financial support. I put in all my one year money earned during my job and took off. Being from the technical background and non Business family, led to a lot of initial hardship, but I got good support from my wife and dad. The challenge was primarily in terms of organizing the initial finance required to implement the order, since no distributor gives any credit to startup's. Another challenge was in terms of statutory compliance obligation. Being an entrepreneur and technical person, it was a big challenge to parallelly look after these statutory norms while managing the sales."
The favorable factor
However, amidst all the obstacles, there was something that came to Choudhary's rescue and gave him the much needed support and motivation. "The market was very limited and the number of companies wanting to setup a communication network in early 90's were even less. The competition was also not much and it helped me do good business," he reveals.
Early days
"I had started with only communication products in 1991. Computerization followed in the next three years. People were installing computers and we were providing the connectivity through telephone lines. So cashing in on the trend, I started another company 'Leading Edge' with partners, in 1994, to undertake networking projects," says the man. The emergence of active and wireless devices and the increasing demands by the clients in the following times, led to the formation of Choudhary's new firm Techniche, which today provides complete solutions. "In 2003, I could sense that we need to be only providing complete solution and as such formed a new company Techniche (Niche is a French word for excellence, and we wanted to be a niche player in technological and solution space ). Since 2003, we have been providing leading edge solutions in the technologically innovative field in niche areas," he says.
The growth
Â
Over the past 20 years, the company, besides the east region, has made its mark in the neighboring countries as well. Moreover, it has also provided an apt platform to young and aspiring engineers to fulfill their professional dreams. "Ethics and trust have been our motto when working with both our clients as well as our OEM companies. We have had lot of opportunities from our esteemed clients to work on various kinds of IT and security services," adds Choudhary.
Success mantra
Hard work and technological advancement have been the success mantra of the company, however, Choudhary further reveals, "Uncompromising attitude in workmanship and being true to yourself have also been followed till date."
Future plans
As a complete solution provider, the company plans to start a software wing to
take up integration projects from its Clients. Also, it seeks to migrate into cloud computing ans remote infrastructure management.
Advise to aspiring entrepreneurs
"I would advise young entrepreneurs to devote 100% of their initial time, at least
2 years, to work. It is not only that you are trying to establish yourself in the market and in front of the clients, there is a big challenge managing the home front too. On top of that, staff being
less, you have to multitask. But once you can cover up the initial distance of 2-3 years, entrepreneurship is the best fruit to have," is the piece of advice Choudhary wants to give to all the aspiring entrepreneurs. Also, he says, "I would encourage young people to take up
entrepreneurship as early as possible. Even if you make a mistake early in
your life, you would get time to recoup."
On the personal front
Married to a teacher and father of a girl, Choudhary is a big sports freak and loves playing table tennis, tennis, and swimming. Reading, traveling and listening to old Hindi songs are some other areas of interest of the man, who also takes classes on networking and entrepreneurship in colleges, in his free time.
