Meta Infotech, a Mumbai-based e-infrastructure management solution company

has been appointed as distributor for Packeteer’s bandwidth management and

content acceleration range of products in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and

Bangladesh. Meta Infotech is seeking partners all over India for selling

Packeteer solutions. "We are looking for 25 affiliate and 10 enterprise

partners who can promote Packeteer’s solutions aggressively," says Venu

Gopal Peruri, MD, Meta Infotech. According to him, affiliate partners will

generate leads and pass on enquiries and enterprise partners will do the actual

selling.

Earlier, Datapro Infoworld was the only company distributing Packeteer

products in India. "The agreement with Datapro has been terminated since

July 2002 as the company was not able to fulfill the contractual terms. Hence we

are terminating this partnership keeping in mind our business interests,"

says Michael See, Territory Manager, South Asia, Packeteer Asia Pacific.

However, Sandeep Karnavat, GM - Marketing, Datapro Infoworld, denies

termination of the distribution tie-up with Packeteer. "We are still

distributing Packeteer products," he stresses, but adds, "We have

reduced our focus on Packeteer solutions as we see better technologies coming

in."

Explaining the strategy behind appointing Meta Infotech, Michael says,

"It is our practice to appoint a single distributor in most countries.

Hence appointing Meta Infotech as the sole distributor in India just matches our

business believes."

Under Packeteer’s terms, a distributor cannot sell direct to end-users or

customers. "They must only work with channel partners, thus they are

commonly viewed as an "extension" of Packeteer in the respective

countries," says Michael. He adds that the company is expecting to tap

annual revenues to the tune of $1.5 million next year in India.
