Pawan Jajodia of Mohit Electronics was elected as the new President of
Computer Association of Eastern India (Compass), during the association AGM.
Jajodia took over from his predecessor-LK Lalani of Lalani Infotech.
The outcome of the election was a surprising turn of events since talks were
doing the rounds that Alok Garodia of Jupiter Electronics was next in line for
the post. As per market reports, Garodia was unanimously considered for the post
of President. But due to reasons best known to the association, Garodia's
nomination was withdrawn at the last moment.
Meanwhile, Jajodia had also filed nominations for the post and was elected
unanimously as the new President for 2007-08. Jajodia is also among the senior
members of Compass. Speaking on the development, Jajodia said, "I have been
associated with Compass since a long time. Now, as the President, I will have to
take care of both planning and execution."
He also said that although it was too early to plan anything concrete, he had
several plans in mind for his tenure. "My priority will always be the well
being of members. I appeal to all members to come forward and take active part
in the proceedings of the associations," said Jajodia, while encouraging
all members to come forward and share their problems without hesitation.
"Along with the support of members, my efforts will be to revive the
earlier popularity and position of Compass, and together we will work towards
making it the best association in India," he asserted.
Last AGM, Compass had decided to publish a warranty book, which didn't
materialize. On Jajodia's agenda, is to publish the book. Apart from that, two
new cells were formed last year-Business and Trade Practices and Sports
Activities, and both the cells remained inactive. "My intentions are to
activate the new cells as well as bring out the warranty book as soon as
possible," he informed. Jajodia's priority is to enhance the interaction
between the government and Compass. In spite of the government repeated
announcing IT initiatives, Jajodia feels there are many loopholes due to which
the industry and the traders related to it suffer. "My effort will be to
bridge the gap and extend support from Compass to the government," he
stated. "Also, since IT is an important aspect of the state budget, we will
try and convince the Finance Minister to include a representative from Compass
during the budget meeting," he added further.
While Jajodia plans to work for these causes, he is also looking at setting
up a Compass office near GC Avenue. Apart from that, members are also working
towards opening an IT plaza in Salt Lake Sector V. Jajodia plans to form a
separate committee for this project. Summing it up, Jajodia said, "I have
accepted the responsibility keeping this agenda in mind. I will put in my best
efforts to achieve maximum results."
