Plasma therapy has been taken off the recommended treatment list of ICMR. Way back in Nov 2020, Remedesivir injection had been suspended by WHO. Despite this, some doctors had continued to prescribe both to the critical patients, in the hope that they may save lives.
Corona, Plasma and Remedesivir
It should be mentioned that these recommended lists are not mandatory on the doctors and they have the authority to prescribe treatment according to their own discretion, unless a medication has been banned as illegal. Hence, doctors as well as the patients' families had continued to resort to Plasma therapy and Remedesivir injection, in the hope to save critical patients. This had escalated in the demands for both plasma and Remedesivir and many agencies and support groups had begun circulating contact details of Plasma donors on social media. Remedesivir was selling at exorbitant prices of Rs 20,000/- to Rs 50,000/- per injection and was finding buyers even at these prices.
Talking to some doctors involved in giving treatment to Corona patients, DQ Channels learnt that there are several stages of Corona infection. Since it's a virus whose activities are not well known, no medication really helps. In early stages, breathing exercises and steam inhalation work much better than any medication. In some patients, steroids work, but these should not be taken without consulting a qualified doctor. In more severe cases, oxygen administration is the only recourse. However, there is so much pressure on the doctors from the patients' families, that they have to advise plasma therapy and Remedesivir injection as a last resort, in the hope that the patient may revive. Otherwise, research has shown that both plasma and Remedesivir don't have any significant positive effect on the Corona patient.
Support to the Families of Partners Who died of Corona
In a separate discussion with the IT partners and associations, DQ Channels learnt that they have begun to offer support to the IT partners who have died of Corona. Recently, we have heard some reports of some partners who succumbed to Corona. Another partner reported that his wife and mother died in a week's time after going through the critical stage and receiving all treatments. Families of such IT partners have been devastated by their loss.
