Pushpam launches laptops in Rs 20-45K range

Pushpam Computers and Softwares, a Pune-based company engaged in mobile computing solutions, has launched laptops in the price range of Rs 20,000 to

Rs 45,000. Says Sachin Chopda, Director, Pushpam Computers and Softwares, "Although

there is a requirement for laptop for sales people constantly on the move, not many companies or individuals are willing to

shell out Rs one lakh for a laptop. Therefore, we decided to move into the affordable price range

market."

The laptop range launched by Pushpam, through a Taiwanese OEM would be available in the Indian market under the brand

name 'Civilnotes'. Civilnote 200 - an Intel Pentium model with 40 MB RAM is touted to be ideal for

entrepreneurs using MS Windows/MS Office, accounting packages, besides the facility to send and receive e-mail. This machine is priced at Rs

20,000. 

Civilnote 300, which boasts of a higher configuration of 72 MB RAM and a Pentium 233 MMX Processor is considered to

be ideal for LIC agents and also has a CD ROM drive. Civilnote 400 has higher end applications, which require

good screen quality and more storage capacity. These machines are available in the price range of Rs 30,000 to Rs 45,000.

Says Sachin, "We are not looking at replacing the PC. But we think there is a certain segment that would be looking for these kind of products in a low

price range." The segments that the company is targeting include insurance, pharma and corporates that do not want to spend a lot on the second and

third-tier executives, but want quick results. 

In addition, the company has recently launched a palm top for LIC agents. The palmtop called `Pushpam Handspc' currently

accounts for 65 percent of the company's revenue.
