Quantum Corporation has disclosed a change in its roadmap for its DLT tape
solutions, keeping in mind the changing IT requirements of customers. The
changes primarily look at addressing the emerging trends in Information
Lifecycle Management (ILM) and future object-based storage trends that will
drive the movement towards ultra-capacity tapes.
The change includes a change in the naming pattern of DLT tape products for
the convenience of customers.
According to Mike Sparkes, Product Marketing Manager - APAC, Storage
Solutions Group, the DLT-S road-
map is expected to deliver over 10 terabytes per cartridge with system speeds
matched to meet all network capabilities before 2008. The DLT-V offerings are
expected to deliver multi-terabyte devices at less than $1000.

Meanwhile, the company also disclosed that it will be conducting regional
channel partner events to communicate the new roadmap to the channels.
"All other existing channels programs such as the Quantum Alliance and
its associated free training programs for resellers, will continue," says
Julie Spencer, Channel Marketing Manager - Asia Pacific.
Also planned is a new channel promotion in the first quarter of 2005 that
includes incentive-based schemes for channels.
