Quantum announced the opening of its India Development Center (IDC), an
R&D facility that will augment its existing engineering resources and aid in
faster time-to-market of new disk, software and tape solutions. Quantum expects
to gain efficiencies and lower operational costs through round-the-clock
productivity and diversified skill-sets.
"The IDC will help us improve our time to go-to-market by leveraging the
broad base of experienced engineering talent in India," said Rick Belluzzo,
Chairman and CEO of Quantum. "Quantum is pleased with this opportunity to
expand our presence in India, and the new Development Center will play a
critical role in our backup, recovery and archive strategy going forward.
Data requirements continue to grow at more than fifty percent per year.
Quantum has positioned its disk, software and tape solutions to help Indian and
global customers manage their growing data protection needs.
Quantum's IDC is its wholly owned subsidiary and will expand its existing
engineering resources. It will also allow Quantum access to world-class
engineering talent from some of the best universities and research institutions
in India. Located in the Ascendas IT Park in Hi-Tech City, the center has a
dozen employees at the present time, more engineering talent is being recruited.
The IDC resources will be integral across Quantum's complete line of
disk-based backup, storage management software and tape automation solutions,
ranging from those designed for small and medium-sized businesses to those
protecting data for the largest corporate and government data centers. Its new
facility also reflects the company's continued momentum and commitment to
growing its presence in the Indian marketplace. Quantum sales, service, and
marketing for India and Sri Lanka customers continue to be headquartered in
Bangalore.
Quantum's center will play a strategic role in its development of the DXi-Series
of disk-based backup and replication solutions. Recently announced in India, the
DXi7500 is designed to serve large corporate customers and government
organizations with enterprise-class backup and restore performance while
leveraging on its data re-duplication technology.
Quantum also recently introduced Scalar 50, an intuitive entry-level tape
library designed to provide faster and more reliable data protection for small-
to medium-sized storage environments, ideal for organizations that seek
enterprise features in a solution priced for SMBs. Scalar 50 can grow with a
company through the addition of expansion drives and slots. This 'pay as you
grow' solution minimizes upfront investment by companies allowing them to
allocate resources to other areas to further accelerate their growth in the near
term.
