With an aim to make India a manufacturing hub, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated ‘Make in India’ campaign in 2014. Many entrepreneurs are looking forward to become a part of the initiative. However, there is one entrepreneur who endorsed this vision way back in 1980 by becoming first domestic computer manufacturer. Raj Saraf, chairman and MD of Zenith Computers is one of the entrepreneurs who laid the foundation of PC manufacturing business in India.

Zenith Computers started in 1980 under a dynamic leadership of Raj Saraf. Saraf’s vision to make latest technology products available for Indian customers led to various innovative offering by the company in India. Zenith witnessed phenomenal success in the PC manufacturing and emerged as a strong player among top MNC brands.

Zenith introduced India’s First sub-25k Pentium laptop in 1991. It created a market for computing in offices, banks, households, education and every sector that has benefited from technological advancement in India. When Zenith began its business operations, it was the 59th ranked PC company, with many major business houses having entered in PC manufacturing space. Soon it became the 2nd largest PC company in India.

Zenith also became first vendor to introduce networking in the country in 1987, before IBM, and many others such as Unix, CPM, touch screens and other innovations. Likewise, it first introduced common operating system in India with CPM even before MS DOS. Zenith has many such feathers of success to add in its hat.

Zenith caters to clients like Intel, Microsoft, Tata Group, Godrej, Taj Hotels, Kotak, HDFC, Mahindra and Mahindra, Toyota, Colgate, State Bank of India, ICICI, ITC, Castrol, Reliance Infocom, Aviva and even IBM. The company has expanded its business operations in South America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, SAARC and Asia. Zenith has 500 Zenith PC World stores and 1000+ dealers nationwide.
