Samsung launches Combo drive, eyes optical storage segment

Samsung India IT and Telecom Division launched the Combo drive SM-352,  priced at Rs 5,500. The device replaces the
DVD and a CD read-write drive  with one single drive that can perform both functions. The SM-352 is capable
of 52X CD-R write speeds, which the company claims that it is the fastest  CD-R write speed in the industry today.  

The drive re-writes at 24X speed, reads regular CD-ROM media at 52X speed
and reads DVD media at 16X speed. It comes with a warranty of 15 months from
the date of manufacturing.  

The company is targeting a 69% marketshare in the optical media storage
market with the launch of these drives. "Samsung is re-enforcing its focus
on the growth in this segment. The market prospects are very bright and we
are geared to spearhead the growth," says Sonal Anand, Country Manager -  Products, Samsung.
