Mumbai-based Savex Computers managed to post a healthy growth of 22 percent
in the FY'08-09 despite the slow economy. As Savex Computers does not have a
very broad vendor portfolio and it banks on brands like Acer, HP and Logitech,
etc. It entered into a tie-up with Acer India last year as an exclusive national
distributor for its monitor range after becoming the national distributor of HP
for its printers and consumable range in the last fiscal. Savex computer won
'Best Consumer PC distributor for India' award given by HP.

Savex recorded a 50 percent growth in its notebook sales in the last fiscal
year. The company also went about strengthening its dealer network and currently
claims to have a 6,000-strong channel. Rather than the metros, Savex tried its
best to tap the upcountry markets, especially C and D-class cities for pushing
the Acer monitor business.

The distributor has around 47 branches all over India. Playing it safe, Savex
opened just five branches in these last two years namely in Jammu, Calicut,
Vizag, Varanasi and Jabalpur.

In order to increase the company's profitability, the management decided to
embark on more channel engagement programs. It has also tried to expand its
product basket by adding products in networking and storage categories.
