Savex to distribute Mercury products

Savex has signed a deal with Kobian to distribute the latter’s Mercury brand of motherboards, sound cards, TV tuner cards, speakers and cabinets. All these products will have the standard one-year warranty and will also be serviced by Savex.



"Mercury products enjoy the ‘pull’ factor from both system integrators as well as dealers who seem to like them. This is true, especially in South India," says Devang Pandya of Savex Computers. "Motherboards are already available with us. But add-on cards will arrive soon," he informs.



Products being marketed include the KOB 810 DSMT, which is a motherboard with an onboard modem, launched recently. This motherboard is being targeted at SIs as well as dealers, who cater to the growing segment of SOHOs, who are potential Internet users.



Another innovative product is the KOB 630E FSLT, a Mercury motherboard, which is based on the SIS 630E processor. A notable feature of this product is its onboard network card. This product is being targeted at SMEs. Other Mercury products being distributed include sound cards and TV tuner cards, which have already been shipped to India. Savex is also distributing the complete range of Mercury speakers as well as cabinets. These would also include server casings.



Speaking to CI, Devang says "We will observe the market during OND quarter, and this will help us decide market preferences. Based on this feedback, we plan to steadily ramp us volumes." However, he rules out the possibility of Savex distributing other Mercury branded products like LCD monitors or CD-ROM drives.





Acer India appoints Iris as regional distributor

Acer India Ltd has appointed Iris, as its regional distributor for North India. The entire range of Acer Power desktops, Altos servers and TravelMate notebooks will now be available to the growing North India market through Iris.



The tie-up is keeping in view Acer’s plans to strengthen its market position in the region. Iris has a strong regional presence catering to 500 resellers. Acer’s authorized service providers present in 116 cities will facilitate after-sales support to the resellers for the entire range of desktops, notebooks and servers.
