Seagate Technology has tied up with the National Insurance Company to provide a comprehensive three-year insurance plan that would cover the entire PC hardware. Starting August 18th, computers with the company's HDD would be insured at a rate of Rs 399 for a PC costing less than Rs 30,000 and Rs 599 for PCs priced above that. This scheme would include monitors, but not the keyboard and
mouse.
This nation-wide scheme would be provided through Seagate's 650-strong channel network. Buyers can walk-in with their PC at any authorized partner outlet. Seagate will replace the PC parts immediately and settle the claims, within 10 days, directly with the insurance company. This move is likely to give the company an edge over its closest competitor, Samsung.
