Simmtronics launches multimedia card memory for digital devices

Simmtronics Semiconductors Ltd has announced the release of `multimedia card
(MMC) memory' for PDA, digital camera, mobile phones, digital video recorders. The MMC Card is available in 128mb, 256mb and 512mb capacities.

According to the press release, the card is designed to provide maximum performance for today's digital devices. It weighs
less than two grams and is the size of a postage stamp. The small size of the card allows digital
device product manufacturers the ability to continuously design ultra-small, portable devices. The release further states that the MMC cards are highly
integrated flash products with serial random access capability, which lets users, carry more music, images, data and voice
recordings. The MMC card transfers data at 2.5 MB per second.

The card also features smallest removable form factor, rugged and reliable mechanical construction, forward compatible to
secure MMC specification, high speed serial interface with random access, multi-block read and write
supported, sustained write speed up to 300 bytes/sec, low power consumption, SPI interface supported, on card error correction and no external
programming voltage is required. 

The product has a lifetime warranty (five years warranty). Simmtronics, India has successfully started shipping 128mb /
256mb MMC cards. These are available at Rs 1,600 for 128mb and Rs 3,000 for 256mb. These prices include
modvat and sales tax.

The MMC is 100 percent compatible with Aiwa, Compaq, Daiyoo, Ericsson,
Grundig, HP, IBM, Intel, JVC, Nokia, Panasonic, Pentax, Sanyo, Samsung, Thomson, Toshiba, Yashica, etc.
