One of the largest software resellers in the country, Softcell Trade and Technologies, is now contemplating entering the hardware business as well. So far it was a pure software player catering only to end-users.
Explaining the rationale behind such a thought process, Ujwal Andhari, Director, Softcell says, "We already have an excellent client base across all the major verticals for our software business. So we can easily leverage on that to sell hardware as well and offer end-to-end solution."
According to him, customers today prefer to have single-point technology partner, who can address their entire IT needs, hence the logic of Softcell cashing on this opportunity. "However, we would be very particular with our choice of vendors and would go with one of the top three PC vendors," remarks
Ujwal.
Softcell recorded a turnover of Rs 86 crore in 2003-04, a dip of about Rs 4 crore from its revenue the year before that. However, the company is confident of crossing Rs 100 crore-mark in the current fiscal. "Once things take a concrete shape, we expect good revenues coming from our hardware business," adds
Ujwal.
However, according to him, it would be another six months before anything substantial in this direction happens.
