Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is working on a disaster recovery
management system. According to
P Venugopal, STPI Director, Mumbai and Pune, the system includes setting up of a
3,000 sq feet disaster recovery facility in Mumbai. This facility will ensure
that its clients' businesses would not be affected in case of a disaster.
The recent rains and the subsequent floods in Mumbai and other parts of
Maharashtra have affected the smooth conduct of business in many firms.
Companies wishing to avail the disaster management service can keep the back up
of their data with STPI on a chargeable basis. These will be worked out on
various package levels such as back up services, incremental back up services,
one week back up or important file back up services.

Apart from the Mumbai facility, the STPI has also plans to set up disaster
recovery facilities in many other locations across India. The idea is to keep
data in different states, so that the client's business does not suffer in
case of a disaster. Venugopal felt that since STPI enjoys a good reputation in
the industry, security of data would not be a major concern.
Venugopal said that they have been working on such a disaster recovery plan
since 9/11. "Software industries had then struggled to cope with the
situation.
