Sun Microsystems and Symantec Corporation released iForce intrusion detection
appliance, to address increasing security needs of enterprise and service
providers.
The iForce IDS appliance extends the network’s ability to detect intrusions
in the enterprise that may cause service downtime and lost business
opportunities. It profiles network traffic and identifies intrusions by
implementing advanced protocol anomaly detection, traffic state profiling and
statistical flow analysis.
"Today’s
sophisticated blended network attacks can cost companies lost business, diminish
customer confidence, intellectual property losses, legal liabilities, and the
time and money spent recovering from the attack," says Charles Kolodgy,
Research Director for Security Products at IDC. "This appliance provides
another layer of security to complement most of the existing customer
deployments that contain only firewalls and some signature-based intrusion
detection systems."
The device combines Sun’s x86-based server, running the enterprise-class
Solaris OS x86 platform edition, with Symantec ManHunt, a network-based
intrusion detection system. It protects vital information infrastructures with
enterprise-wide high-speed multi-gigabit detection, real-time threat analysis,
and policy-based responses to guard against intrusions and attacks.
"This pre-tested, and configured appliance from Sun and Symantec
demonstrates our focus on resolving complex problems for customers while
reducing their costs," said Stuart Wells, Sr VP, Market Development
Organization, Sun Microsystems.
"The iForce is a key component of an overall security strategy that
includes protection at every tier of the network," added Frank Huerta,
VP-Product Delivery, Intrusion Detection at Symantec.
iForce will be featured in four models to address a wide range of enterprise
requirements at a suggested price of $21,995.
