ELITEX '03, the annual event of the Department of Information Technology (DIT) saw the unveiling of a digital set box,
C-Crypto - a software tool, Urdu Nashir - a word processor developed by C-DAC (Noida), the single chip
phone IC developed by SCL and INDIX- Hindi enabled LINUX.
Held at New Delhi, the objective of the event is to position India as the hub for global R&D. This was reflected in its theme
"Moving up the Value Chain: India - A Global Destination for R&D". The event, comprising an exhibition and
technology-focused seminars, is showcasing products and services developed under the aegis of the DIT. The
scope of this year's ELITEX has been enlarged to include official participation from European countries besides the Central and West Asia,
Gulf, Latin American and SAARC countries. Efforts have also been made to have participation of all the member countries of Asia Electronics
Info-Communications Union.
A special session on enhancing e-readiness is focusing on the deployment of IT by the State Governments. A report on
e-readiness, assessing the deployment and usage of IT to facilitate citizen services is also being
unveiled at the event. Exhibitors at ELITEX'2003 include National Informatics Center,
STQC, Electronics & Software Exports Promotion Council , CMC Ltd, Semiconductor
Complex Ltd, Center for Development of Advanced Computing and Media Lab Asia among others.
