New Update

IBM India has unveiled notebooks with the world's first automatic hard disk drive (HDD) protection technology, the Active Protection System (APS), designed to prevent HDD crashes and data loss. The two new completely updated line of ThinkPad notebooks -- ThinkPad R50 and T41 -- are targeted at large enterprises like manufacturing and distribution companies, financial organizations as well as SMB, government, educational institutions. Prices for the ThinkPad R50 start at Rs 1,25,000 and the ThinkPad T41 begin at Rs 1,69,900, exclusive of taxes.

The APS uses a micro chip to detect system movements (such as in a fall) and stops the HDD temporarily to prevent any data loss, which helps reduce warranty costs. These notebooks also feature IBM ThinkVantage Technologies, a set of software and hardware features, which come bundled with all IBM PCs and notebooks.

According to insurance and analyst reports, more than 10.5% of notebooks are damaged annually; and accidental damage accounts for majority of PC loss claims. Of the HDD, display and keyboard, HDDs are most prone to damage, which results in the loss of valuable information and productivity.
