Following reports of a Facebook page being run in the name of Supreme Court of Pakistan, the apex court clarified it does not operate or have any social media accounts.

"The Supreme Court of Pakistan is neither using any Facebook account or page nor any other ID on any other social networking sites," it said in a statement.

The top court also directed the authorities concerned, including the Federal Investigation Agency and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, to block such IDs, pages and take legal action against the delinquents in accordance with law, The Express Tribune reported.

The news about a fake Facebook page of the Supreme Court has emerged as the government launched a crackdown against social media users maligning Islam and state institutions.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had said last month that the government would not impose restrictions on social media, but at the same time made it clear that unbridled freedom could not be allowed.
