Compuage will soon take over the hardware business of Worldwide Infocom
Ltd. Thereafter, it will be known as Compuage Infocom Ltd. "By virtue of this
takeover, we will also become a listed entity," says Atul Mehta, Chairman and
Managing Director, Compuage Electronics Ltd.
"We are awaiting clearances from the Chennai and Mumbai high
courts. The procedure is expected to take six weeks." Informs Mehta. However, he
refutes market rumors of a public issue sometime in December. "We have no plans for
any public issue or rights issue," he says.
Compuage plans to launch its own brands of speakers and fax modems
under the ‘Odyssey’ brand name. It is keen on geographical expansion as well and
will open a branch in Nagpur shortly.
Compuage is also in talks with Intel and AMD to distribute CPUs.
"There are already quite a few players and Intel will have to decide whether to allow
us to distribute their products," Mehta says. Sometime, later this year, the company
will also start distributing branded MNC PCs. However, Mehta did not reveal these brands.
Plans have been drawn up to incorporate e-commerce capabilities into
Compuage’s present web site by December. "We are also actively working on
implementing ERP in-house," reveals Mehta.
