Toshiba is trying out a hybrid distribution model for its handhelds in the country. While the company already has two national distributors, HCL Infosystems and Tech Pac, on board it is now in the process of appointing regional distributors (RDs) for its handhelds. According to the company, it would be appointing eight RDs across major cities. Digitronix has already been appointed as a RD in Delhi and Cyberciti is being considered for Mumbai. "Within a month's time we would have RDs in place in the major eight cities across the country," informs Jyotin Verma, Country Head-Sales and Marketing, HCL
Infosystems.
Explaining the rationale behind having a hybrid distribution model in place, Jyotin says that RDs can be of great help in tapping the segment of customers, which do not get addressed by the national distys. "By having RDs, we can ensure wider reach and customer penetration for our handheld devices," adds he. He also indicates at creating a strong visibility for handhelds in retail stores.
Currently Toshiba is selling about 200 handhelds a month in the country and Jyotin believes that by the end of current fiscal, sales could witness a 50-60% growth.
