Transmeta unveils Efficeon brand for TM8000 microprocessors

Transmeta Corporation unveiled Efficeon, the brand name and logo for its new, high-performance TM8000 microprocessor family. Efficeon ushers in a new era of efficient computing for users of ultra-portable and mainstream notebook computers.

Arthur Swift, Senior VP, Marketing, Transmeta Corporation, “The Efficeon processor’s LongRun power management features and integrated architecture gives system designers and marketers a wide range of choices in creating products that deliver added value, functionality, security, comfort, reliability, and cost-savings to end users.

The Efficeon’s ability to execute upto eight instructions per clock enables typical, real-world applications to run about 50% faster per clock cycle, and multimedia applications up to 80% faster per clock cycle, than the current Crusoe TM5800 processor. 

Many major computer makers have been evaluating the Efficeon processor for a wide range of applications.
