Tulip IT services is investing Rs 45 crore to set up a wireless-based network to provide VPN services using last mile wireless connectivity
across six north Indian states. The Delhi-based company has set up a network of wireless radios, which will allow users to exchange voice, data
and video over VPNs.
The hub situated in Delhi will cater to the entire north India. The company said that this network can be used by banks,
corporates with multi branches and dealer networks, stockbrokers and service companies.
Tulip is setting up small radio boxes, which use line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight means to provide connectivity. This means that the need
to set up towers in unfriendly terrain is automatically reduced. The network will cover the states of Punjab,
Haryana, J&K, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
"This is the first time in India that any company has tried to connect the entire north Indian states. The VPN will provide
secure access to corporates in different locations," said Lt Col Bedi, MD, Tulip. The company is in the process of creating India's largest wireless network
infrastructure covering more than 200 cities to provide the last mile connectivity to
corporates. It is investing around Rs 150 crore in the infrastructure development.
Tulip takes fiber on lease from major bandwidth providers across the country and using wireless in the last mile is able to provide end-to-end
VPN connectivity.
