The euphoria is over. The change of guard at the centre has been completed. But, there are many who are waiting expectantly, for things to change. They may have a long wait. In fact wait may be their default action.

If you look around you, says a famous quote, you will find three types of people: Those who make things happen; those who watch things happen; and those who wonder what happened.

And the quantum of people gains momentum as you move from type one to type three. The number of people who believe in making things happen are abysmally small and gradually swell to those who wait and wonder.

So, who is right? Isn’t it true that in absence of a clear direction, you better wait for clarity than jump in aimlessly? Isn’t it better to bide your time when things are not going your way.

While there is merit in these strategies, most tend to use it as a crutch to lean on a state of inertia. They make themselves believe that the present environment is not conducive to their action and leads them to a cosy comfort of complacency from where they see things with a guilt-free conscience.

Then, like the present scenario there are many who are looking forward to a beneficial change of climate to move out of their comfort zone. They hedge their bets on a change of scene in the near future and wait impatiently for the ‘good times’ to arrive.

Most of the people are expectant of good things coming their way, albeit not through their efforts. They are keen on accomplishments, achieving milestones, and being successful.

The problems that these people face are that of control. They fool themselves into believing that their fate is in someone else’s hands. They are hoping for things to fall into their lap, and are always hoping that some turn of events will land their expectations into their lap.

So, what is different about the smallest group – those who make things happen. Again, it is the control. They too pray for good times, favourable environment, and lady luck smiling on them. But the crucial difference is they consider the environment only as environment where they have to push harder when the winds are not with them and make the most when the things are looking up at them.

They don’t expect the circumstances to deliver. They don’t expect things to land at their doorstep. They believe they have to do what is required to be done and the rewards may differ on the environment.

They believe that fate is in their hands and put those hands to work in turning things around rather than hoping things will turn for them.

They turn up, and turn things around.
