The fifth annual election of Vellore Association for Information Technology (VAIT)
was held recently. The new office bearers for the term 2007-08 include C Suresh
Babu, President; J Prakash, VP; SR Ramesh, Secretary; Anandakumar, Joint
Secretary and VN Dhanasekaran, Treasurer. "We are all set to create a new
chapter in the history of VAIT. The new team would work towards grooming the
individual (reseller) in business acumen, financial management, credit handling,
personality development, and human resource. VAIT will strive to take Vellore to
the next level in IT business," said Babu.
VAIT has retained three persons from the previous year's team. However, they
were given new profiles, except for Dhanasekaran who will remain the Treasurer
for the second term.
VAIT claims to have had a key role in growing the IT business in Vellore in
the last five years. "Vellore was once a neglected market (by
vendors/distributors) and Chennai resellers dominated the business here.
Customers from Vellore preferred to buy products from Chennai, citing price
difference, authorized relationship status, offerings (choice) in the market and
service support, among others. But today, Vellore is tapping local opportunities
as well as acting as a hub to nearby markets. This was made possible due to the
active role of VAIT," he added.
VAIT is looking at building a strong channel organization with single-man
driven reseller shops in Vellore. "Business is growing and opportunities
are expanding. Resellers should also gear-up to meet future demands. This needs
sound business knowledge and management skills. VAIT will fulfill that need by
offering quality training programs, on various aspects of business, to all its
members," said Ramesh.
Another major focus this year would be on entertainment. "Business and
fun should go hand-in-hand. Keeping this in mind, VAIT has decided to organize
monthly outings and family entertainment programs for its members. In fact, our
first general meeting is going to take place in Horsley Hills, Andhra Pradesh,
next week," said Anandakumar.
