WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. has extended its Firebox X family of integrated security appliances to address the needs of
branch offices, small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and remote workers with the
launch of the Firebox X Edge line.Â
According to the press release, the Firebox X Edge line delivers firewall,
VPN, wireless security, Web filtering and managed desktop AV capabilities in a single integrated solution. The Firebox X Edge line is based on an
expandable platform with full model upgrade capability. It also allows users to apply a software license key to existing hardware and get all the
performance, capacity and functionality of a higher model in the line.Â
The Firebox X Edge line is designed to interoperate with Firebox X appliances located at a central site for seamless network protection across
a geographically distributed organization. Every Firebox X appliance comes bundled with a four-device WSM license, so SMEs with multiple offices or
remote users can manage security from a central location without incurring additional costs.Â
For small businesses or remote offices without IT resources on site, Firebox X Edge features a built-in Web interface and new
configuration wizards. All Firebox X Edge appliances come with an initial subscription to WatchGuard's
LiveSecurity Service.
Firebox X Edge is available in three different models, both wired and wireless, with varying levels of capacity and
performance: Firebox X5 /X5w, Firebox X15 / X15w and Firebox X50 / X50w. Wired models are expected to be
available later this month through WatchGuard resellers worldwide and wireless models are expected to be available in Q4 2004. Prices range from
Rs 32,000 for the Firebox X5, Rs 41,500 for Firebox X15, to Rs 74,700 for
Firebox X50.
