D-Link India has joined hands with Taiwan-based Gigabyte Technology to
develop, manufacture and market motherboards under the brand name of DigiLink-Gigabyte.
"With the DigiLink-Gigabyte combination, D-Link is targeting the top three
position in the Indian motherboard market," says KR Naik, Chairman, D-Link
India.
Gigabyte has been one of the key global players in motherboard market for the
last several years. However, it did not have a substantial presence in India
despite having two national distributors– Visualan and Cyberstar, for the last
one year. With this tie-up, the company is yet to decide on the fate of these
distributors.
According to Tony Liao, VP, Gigabyte, a decision on this will be taken after
having a meeting with the existing distributors. However, he adds, "The
existing sales through these distributors were just few thousands and hence it
shouldn’t be a problem to sort out things."
For D-Link, the tie-up is a strategic move to enhance its expertise in
motherboard technology. Currently, it is the only networking company in India
with a manufacturing base. Liao added that the joint venture would provide the
best of facilities like local delivery and RMA facilities all over India and
SAARC countries to the satisfaction of consumers. D-Link will use its existing
16 branches, 21 distributors, 300 dealers and 3,000 resellers to market the
motherboards.
