With the introduction of PW 5150, as part of Powerware’s offering of line
interactive models, the company’s entry into the entry-level UPS systems was
complete. Of course, a far cry from the energy solutions that the company is
known for.Â
Powerware was founded in 1962 and was known as Exide Electronics at that
time. In 1997, Exide Electronics was acquired by BTR Plc, a British engineering
and consulting conglomerate, which subsequently merged with Siebe Controls to
become a company called Invensys Plc.
Powerware India is a 100 percent subsidiary of the Invensys Energy Management
division of the Invensys group. With manufacturing facilities in Gurgaon and
Chandigarh, the product was designed and built indigenously to meet the severe
power conditions within the country. Powerware also has an online range of
products.

ROBUST PRODUCT
Targeted at the home and SOHO segment, the product in a short span of time,
has became the company´s flagship offering. Powerware saw a growth of 60
percent in 2001-02 and expects to grow by about 50 to 60 percent in this product
group for the current FY as well.
The PW 5150 comes with a two-year warranty and new electronic voltage
controller (EVC) for incoming voltage corrections.
An aesthetic and contemporary looking product, the PW 5150 is provided with
enhanced battery recharge time to quickly prepare UPS for next power charge.
Another unique feature is its network transient protector that isolates
connected equipment from "back door" surges traveling through network
phone lines.
The product also comes bundled with power management software to ensure data
integrity, which features extensive control and monitoring capabilities.
Powerware’s focus last year went towards the development of a countrywide
network of partners. The company today has partners in 52 locations across the
country. Powerware made major inroads into B and C-class cities and appointed 60
channel partners.
