Signet Computers, the sole Indian distributor of
Dataram memory products, has tied up with
Singapore-based Eoan Systems, manufacturer of third
party advanced memory products, to cater to the memory
needs of desktops and laptops. Dataram products
primarily cater to the memory requirements of servers
and workstations. As a result of this tie up, Signet
would also be providing worldwide support to Eoan
products and will be able to offer memory solutions
for all kinds of machines.
According to Shanthala Gokul, MD, Signet Computers,
the company will try to make the usage of third party
memory products popular in India as it is cost
effective and comes in with proper specifications,
which fits the bill of the products’ memory
requirement. Gokul claimed that most customers rush to
their OEM to meet their respective memory needs,
thereby spending more money and have to wait for a
longer period for their delivery. "This is not the
case with third party memory products where the
delivery is fast and the cost lesser than that from
OEM’s," she said. Commenting upon the gray market
memory products, Gokul said that they did not meet the
specifications and although their cost was low, they
had no guarantee.
Signet Computers, which began in 1995, has a
countrywide presence through fifty resellers. It
signed up with Dataram (then Hypertec) in 1997 for
distribution of their memory products in India and
later took the initiative of introducing the third
party memory up gradation concept for MNC brands of
computer systems in India.
The company achieved a total turnover of about $ 1
million in 2000-01. It offers memory solutions to
industry segments like software houses, embedded
software manufactures, chip designers, enterprise and
banking and finance sectors. Its Indian customers
include Infosys, Siemens, Covansys, Intel Development
Center, Ramco Systems, Coca-Cola, Widia (India) Ltd,
National Semiconductors and Maruti Udyog; amongst many
others. (CNS)
